Kent State University has always placed a high priority on accessibility and equal opportunity. The school had already begun building a catalog of online course material when COVID-19 pushed that effort into high gear. A partnership among technologists in the internal IT department, executive leadership, individual departments, and educators keen to provide the best experience for their students developed a new strategy based on Microsoft Teams. The university has updated technology to include Teams in rooms with computers and room audio/video capability, and specifically developed and deployed a number of broadcasts and hybrid Teams Rooms to include Microsoft Surface Hub. Around one thousand rooms across eight campuses now offer more effective and equitable learning opportunities for in-room, remote, and hybrid classroom teaching.
